Software Hamilton subreddit

Reddit

A few years ago when Software Hamilton first launched it actually had an online forum, but nobody really used it. Back then it was called the ‘Greater Hamilton Computing & Software Network’, which was a horribly long name – maybe that’s why?

In any event, an online forum of some kind has probably been the most requested feature ever since. StartupNorth.ca uses a Facebook group as a forum, and the discussions had there related to MaRS Discovery District during the election cycle were fascinating to read.

A subreddit seems like the best way to facilitate this. It’s controlled enough that it can be moderated, but it’s low friction enough in that anyone can quickly register. Reddit is also popular in Hamilton more broadly speaking.

Unlike the Facebook page, Twitter and LinkedIN group I won’t be re-posting everything on Software Hamilton into the subreddit, as that’s not really the purpose of reddits (and I’m pretty sure it violates ‘reddiquette’). I’ll be posting events, articles and other things that may be of interest to the local tech and startup community, whether they are happenings outside or inside Hamilton. Please feel welcome to join me!
