Cool software developed in Greater Hamilton: Geotrail

Developed in Hamilton, Ontario, Geotrail is an online and interactive tool to promote hiking and outdoor education. Users can plan their recreational activities by searching through hikes depending on their preferences (length, time, difficulty, location, etc.). Trails have points of interest that allow users to preview what they can expect to see when they make the hike.

Geotrail also allows you to blog and rate the trail after your hike. Geotrail websites are built for individual organizations, such as the Royal Botanical Gardens, so that the hikes can be made consistent with what the organization would like the public to see and use. Geotrail can be used to promote trails that don’t necessarily get the recognition they should by highlighting interesting educational information about natural areas like species, landmarks and heritage.

You can check out the Royal Botanical Gardens Geotrail website at http://rbg.geotrail.ca and pick out what hikes you would like to make this spring!
