Health App Competition at McMaster on November 24th

Background: The Active Mental Health Initiative is a student run non-profit organization dedicated to raise awareness of the benefits of physical activity on mental health through group-based physical activity events. We will be holding an Apps, Activity and Wellbeing interdisciplinary symposium consisting of several keynote speakers to learn about physical activity and mental health and an app building competition to understand the role of technology, specifically smartphone applications on wellbeing. The Mobile phone apps have become increasingly popular in today’s society and have transformed our lives. Research has shown physical activity apps to be effective in increasing people’s levels of activity.

Competition Details: For the app building competition, you will be asked to come up with the idea of a physical activity app. Most physical activity apps are tailored towards recording information about the activity. We will be asking you to come up with an idea of physical fitness app with …….. More detailed information will be emailed to you once you register. Prizes will be given to first ($100), second ($50) and third winners ($25) and certificates will be awarded to all participants.

The event and competition will be held at CIBC Hall, McMaster University on November 24th from 11:00am-4:00pm.

You may sign-up as an individual (will be grouped up during the event) or as a team of 2-5 members.

The early bird registration fee, until October 30th, is $10 a team of any size and $5 per person. Once we approve your application, please kindly deposit the fee within 5 days of the approval via e-transfer to sachdem@mcmaster.ca to confirm your spot.
