Innovation Factory Launches Centre for Integrated Transportation and Mobility
Hamilton, ON – December 5, 2018 – Innovation Factory, Hamilton’s regional innovation centre has launched the Centre for Integrated Transportation and Mobility (CITM) to help Ontario companies develop solutions for connected and autonomous vehicles.
The $10.5M centre is a public-private partnership between Nokia Canada, Canada Cartage, Geotab, IBM Canada, Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), the City of Hamilton, McMaster University, Mohawk College and Innovation Factory – and is a part of Ontario’s Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network (AVIN).
CITM provides business and technical advisory services and resources to Ontario-based startups and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the aim of accelerating the development of connected and autonomous, multi-modal and integrated mobility technology solutions and business models.
CITM allows participants to validate problems, understand policy, and engage in integrated transportation solutions by focusing on:
- Maximizing the impact of integrated transportation technologies and business models that enable next-generation mobility by providing Ontario-based connected and autonomous vehicles startups and SMEs the resources and services required to develop multi-modal and integrated mobility solutions
- Enabling an ecosystem, which focuses on infrastructure and integration across physical and operational transportation modes, to support the movement of goods and/or peoplefrom their first mile to their last

CITM leverages the support from our partners and builds on the success of the Innovation Factory, which has helped Ontario startups commercialize products and create companies for the last 8 years”, said David Carter, Executive Director of the Innovation Factory.
“Ontario produces almost 2.2 million vehicles per year; is home to over 20,000 IT companies and more than 700 innovative auto parts manufacturers, and builds top talent by graduating 40,000 STEM professionals each spring from the 44 world-class colleges and universities – extending that leadership into C/AVs is a natural fit for the province”, Carter added.
