There are several non-profit organizations in the Hamilton-area that encourage technology education amongst children, women and men. For example Ladies Learning Code, Golden Horseshoe Green Technology, CoderDojo, McMaster Outreach and Gr8 Designs for Gr8 girls.

Sometimes these groups will organize “one-off” events for technology education, for example a Saturday afternoon spent teaching children Python, or women and men JavaScript programming. These events depend on volunteers to help out, either by presenting a workshop on a technology topic, or being available to help learners with their tutorials or work through difficulties.

There is also increasing interest from Hamilton-area elementary, high schools and Boys & Girls clubs in running weekly occurring “coding clubs”, either on weekends or weeknights. There are many models for such clubs, such as CodeClubs, CoderDojo, After-School Programming, and many types of free and open resources that can be used to provide content for these sorts of clubs. If you are interested in taking responsibility for leading such a weekly coding club, you can indicate so below and you’ll be connected to an area facility interested in hosting a club.
